UA – Capstone Project

Project Vision

Design an advanced technology interior for a business aircraft utilizing modern technology, software, and techniques. Merge students with diverse skills and backgrounds to collaborate with leading professionals to fulfill project deliverables.

Integrated Project Team (IPT) Approach:

•“Multidisciplinary group responsible for delivering a defined product.”

•“Composed of representatives from appropriate functional disciplines”.

•“Working together to build programs, identify and resolve issues and make sound and timely recommendations”.

Benefits from an Effective IPT:

•Spur creativity and innovation, and speed execution.

•Establishing an environment in which one person from a particular trade or discipline can talk to another person from a different area and reveal insights that both can apply to their trade.

•By ensuring your IPT is cross-functional, including people from all parts of your organization, you gain the benefit of many perspectives and ultimately will help build consensus.

•Since many perspectives from empowered IPT members are considered up front, decisions can be made faster and mistakes can be avoided, resulting in more rapid delivery of capability.

In 2020, JANUS launched a collaborative partnership with the STEM & CREATE Path to the MBA program at the University of Alabama. This unique program offers elite students majoring in STEM and creative disciplines an opportunity to complete an MBA from the Manderson Graduate School of Business in just one academic year after undergraduate studies are completed.

In the first year of the partnership, twelve seniors from the program were selected to work with JANUS as part of their Capstone Project. The objective for this project was to focus on a futuristic and technological interior design for a business aircraft. This was done by using modern technology, software, and collaboration methods with industry professionals as mentors. During this project, students successfully created a New Technology Report, Market Requirements & Objectives document, marketing brochures, and several concepts for implementing future technologies into business aircraft.

Our CEO, Kevin Hoffman, is extremely excited about this partnership, as it gives him an opportunity to reconnect and give back to his alma mater. He hopes this partnership will last many years, as these students bring innovative ideas to the business aviation industry.
